Ukraine liberates new territories in Donetsk, launches counteroffensive in Zaporizhia

Ukrainian forces liberated the eastern part of the strategic Hryshyne settlement in eastern Donetsk region, the country’s military reported on Wednesday.

The Russian assault group has infiltrated into the settlement taking advantage of the fog

Around ten Russian soldiers who were hiding in private houses and non-residential premises in eastern part of the Hryshyne during the operation that was carried out by the 7th Rapid Response Corps, Ukrainian media reported. The targets were intercepted by the 147th Separate Artillery Brigade's reconnaissance unit of the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Air Assault Forces.  In particular, Russians were attacked by Leopard tank crew from the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

Heavy fighting has also been underway in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region. Ukrainian military reported launching a counter offensive combat operation in the region on Wednesday, but ruled out any large-scale full-scale counteroffensive. Ivan Tymochko, Chairman of the Reserve Land Forces Council of the Ukrainian Armed said Defence Forces are launching counterattacks against the Russian frontline units in this area.

"If the occupiers get cut off somewhere during the cold spell, even in a single settlement, it will mean certain death from frostbite. This is a well-chosen moment for counterattacks against enemy forces," he stressed. According to Tymochko, Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, had previously designated the Zaporizhzhia axis as a key priority for the occupiers’ offensive. As a result, Russian forces concentrated substantial resources in that area and maintained active offensive operations there for more than two months. Tymochko noted that this situation ultimately compelled Ukrainian defenders to carry out a counteroffensive.
