Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has wished for Putin to “perish” during his annual address to the nation on Christmas eve on December 24.
'"May he perish," each of us may think privately,” Zelenskiy said, making a clear reference to Vladimir Putin. “But when we turn to God, of course, we ask for more. We ask for peace for Ukraine. We fight for it. And we pray for it,” he added. Elsewhere in his Christmas address, Zelenskiy called for unity. “Ukrainians are together tonight – marking Christmas on the same date, as one big family,” Zelenskiy said.
“Sadly, not all of us are at home this evening, not all of us still have a home, and not all of us, unfortunately, are with us today. Yet despite all the hardships brought by Russia, it is incapable of occupying or bombing what matters most. That is our Ukrainian heart, our faith in one another, and our unity,” Zelenskiy went on saying.
Zelenskiy’s remarks came after his conciliatory offer he made today for ending the war with Russia. In an unprecedented speech, Zelenskiy offered creating a demilitarized zone in eastern Donetsk region. Zelenskiy said he was ready to withdraw troops from some parts of the region that are currently not held by Russian forces. He said Washington and Kyiv had reached an agreement on most parts of the 20-point plan aimed at ending the war.
