A Ukrainian drone attack on Russian-annexed Crimea on Monday caused fire at an oil depot in the port city of Feodosia. The attack was followed by massive blaze and thick fume that spread across the city and was visible across the peninsula. A number of Telegram channels shared footage of fire and smoke, while NASA’s fire information system showed multiple active fires at the site of the Feodosia terminal.
Ukrainian Security Service, SBU, claimed responsibility for the attack and told local media that their “drones hit at least five tanks. A large-scale fire is recorded on the territory of the oil depot.” Crimea’s Russian-installed Governor Sergei Aksyonov confirmed that air defense systems downed over 20 drones as they attacked a fuel base in the port city of Feodosia, where the fire broke out.
Being the peninsula’s largest oil depot with a capacity of up to 250,000 tons, the facility is located 250 kilometers from Ukraine. The Russian Defence Ministry on Monday reported downing more than 100 Ukrainian UAV’s overnight, including 40 over the Crimea Peninsula and over 20 over the Black and Azov seas.
Ukraine’s intensified long-range missile and drone attacks on Russia have undermined Russia’s energy infrastructure, causing fuel shortages and price hikes across the country. According to the Ukrainian military sources, these relentless air raids have reduced Russia’s oil-processing capacity by 21%.
