Russian Su-35 fighter jet is downed in Kursk

Ukrainian Air Force units downed Russian Su-35 fighter jet over Russia’s border Kursk region on Saturday morning, Ukrainian military reported.

In a statement published on Telegram app, the Ukrainian Air Force described the downing of the aircraft as a successful operation conducted along the Kursk axis, without giving any further details.

Open Source Intelligence reported that the Su-35 crashed near the village of Yurasovo in Kursk after being shot down by a Ukrainian F-16.

Being among Russia’s most advanced non-stealth fighter jets Su-35 is designed as a deep upgrade of the Soviet Su-27. Ukraine has shot down seven Russian Su-35 fighter jets with Western air defences in the three years of war unleashed by Russia in 2022.

In yet another attack, Ukrainian drones struck a bitumen plant in an industrial zone in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Region 800 km from the Ukrainian border, causing faire in the area.  The attacks came Friday’s attack targeting strategic Engels air base in Russia’s Saratov region, as well as the downing of a Russian Mi-8 helicopter in Bryansk region.

Earlier, on June 1, Ukraines counterintelligence agency, the Security Service, launched its audacious Spiderweb operation that destroyed over forty Russian military aircraft in military fields Belaya, Dyagilevo, Olenya, and Ivanovo deep in Russia.
