Ukraine launched British Storm Shadow missile at major Russian oil refinery in Rostov

Ukraine struck major Russian oil and gas facilities with British Storm Shadow missiles and domestically-made missiles and drones on Thursday.

British Strom Shadow missiles caused multiple explosions at major Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Rostov region with, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported. "Multiple explosions were recorded. The target was hit," the General Staff said in a statement posted on Telegram app.

The facility was one of the biggest refineries supplying oil products, jet fuel and diesel to Russian troops and aviation. It should be noted that the US authorized Ukrainian army’s use of its long-range Storm Shadow missiles deep inside Russia last year, with the first known strike happening in November last year.

In another operation, Ukraine’s domestically-made drones hit oil product tanks in the Russian port of Temry in southern Krasnodar region. Fires caused by the attack covered an area of about 2,000 square meters, authorities at the Krasnodar operational headquarters ‌said on the Telegram app.

In another attack, a gas processing plant in Orenburg in southwestern Russia was else hit by Ukrainian drones. Being the world’s largest facility of its kind, the Orenburg gas processing plant is located around 1,400 km from the Ukrainian border.

Elsewhere, the General Staff said that Ukrainian troops struck a military airfield in the Russian city of Maikop ‌in the republic of Adygea in the North Caucasus region.
