Russian air forces struck the territory of a preschool education facility in the Velyka Chernechchyna district in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy city, the Sumy City Council reported on Saturday.
The attack was launched with a Molniya type UAV and caused the damage in the windows and doors of the education facility. Russians also carried out four guided aerial bomb (KAB) strikes on the territory of Sumy district. The consequences are still being clarified. The attack on the pre-school building came after Russian drones wounded two civilians in the Sumy region after striking their vehicles.
In yet another development in eastern Donetsk region, Ukraine carried out compulsory evacuation of children from the city of Slosvyansk, in a sign that the country’s security situation was deteriorating in one of key strongholds in Donbas industrial region. Russian troops have been making gradual progress on the northern and eastern approaches to Sloviansk, with some frontline positions now roughly 20 kilometers from the city’s outskirts. Sloviansk is part of a cluster of towns and cities in eastern Donetsk that remain under Ukrainian authority, forming a heavily defended urban line often described as a “fortress belt” within the broader Donbas region. Securing full control of the Donbas - an area rich in coal resources and industrial infrastructure - remains a central objective for Russia. At present, Ukraine retains control of slightly less than one-quarter of the Donetsk region.
Across the border, the Russian media reported that Ukraine launched over 280 drones on Saturday night, marking one of Kyiv’s largest barrages since the start of full-fledged invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Sergei Sobyanin, mayor of Moscow, said 27 drones heading to the capital had been intercepted.
Two people were injured in drone attacks in Saratov region southeast of Moscow, governor Roman Busargin posted on Telegram. According to Tass news agency, 283 drones in total had been intercepted.
