Russia slams EU attempts to amend US plans to end war in Ukraine

Russian presidential aide Yuriy Ushakov has criticized European countries and Ukraine for making changes to the US-proposed plan to end the nearly four-year war.

“I am sure that the proposals that the Europeans and Ukrainians have made or are trying to make definitely do not improve the document and do not improve the possibility of achieving long-term peace,” Russian media quoted Yury Ushakov as saying on Sunday.

The official said the amendments to the peace proposal would protract the conflict. The peace proposal drafted by the United States was leaked to the media in November, raising concerns that they benefit the Kremlin’s maximalist position and that Trump administration might push Kyiv to make territorial concessions to Moscow. Since then, negotiators from Ukraine and the EU have been meeting to add their own proposals to the draft agreement, although the contents of the current final peace proposal have not been revealed.

Ushakov’s remarks on Sunday came a day after the meeting between US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Miami, Florida. Earlier, on Friday, US held talks with European and Ukrainian officials. Amid these talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called more Ukrainian engagement in these talks. “There is a shared sense that after the work by our diplomatic team in the United States, we should now hold consultations with European partners in a broader circle,” Zelenskiy  posted on X on Sunday.
