Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said Russia is losing 156 troops, killed or badly wounded. for every square kilometre of eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk.
Speaking at the Munich security conference on Saturday, Zelenskiy said his army eliminated 35,000 Russian soldiers just in December and 30,000 soldiers in January. He stressed that the size of the Russian contingent in Ukraine was not growing this year and predicted that heavy losses among military personnel, will prompt the Kremlin to conscript more soldiers.
"Putin is not concerned about this now, but there is a level at which he will start to care. I'm sure. Every month Russia mobilizes about 40,000 people. Sometimes not all of them reach the front lines,” Zelenskiy said.
“For our armed forces, the task is straightforward — eliminate more Russian occupiers because they are occupiers. The target is concrete: no fewer than 50,000 each month,” he stated.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy again stressed that Ukraine must secure firm security guarantees before entering into any peace deal with Russia. “We hope President Trump listens to us. We hope Congress listens. We hope the American people listen — and we are thankful for all the genuine support,” he said.
His remarks followed announcements from officials in Moscow and Kyiv that another round of U.S.-mediated negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives is scheduled for next week in Geneva.
