Russia carried out a large-scale combined air strike on Ukraine’s energy sites, damaging infrastructure and causing power outages in central Poltava region, local authorities said on December 7.
The strike involving missiles and drones targeted infrastructure in the Kremenchuk district. “Last night, Russians conducted a massive combined strike on Poltava region using missiles and UAVs. Several energy-sector enterprises in the Kremenchuk district came under attack,” acting head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Kohut said. In his words, falling debris triggered fires and damaged technical equipment, which led to disruptions in heating and water supply in several areas of the community. Civilian infrastructure in the district also came under combined air strike, Kremenchuk Mayor Vitalii Maletskyi said earlier.
The attack was part of a broader overnight attack across Ukraine on Sunday. Ukraine’s Air Forces reported intercepting 246 aerial targets, including 241 attack drones of various Shahed-type and other modifications launched from Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk regions, and Russian-annexed Crimea Peninsula. Of these aerial targets, 179 were downed by the Ukrainian Air Forces as of 9:00 AM. Russia’s combined air strike also included 3 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aero-ballistic missiles from Russia’s Tambov region; 2 Iskander-M / KN-23 ballistic missiles from the border Kursk region.
