Leaders of the Coalition of the Willing, a group of European nations supporting Ukraine, will hold a video call on Thursday as Kyiv is preparing to hand over a finalized draft of its peace plans to Washington.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will be on call with official from around 30 countries, including with UK’s Keir Starmer, France’s Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s Friedrich Merz.
“This week may bring news for all of us. We believe that peace has no alternative, and the key questions are how to compel Russia to stop the killings and what specifically will deter Russia from a third invasion,” Zelenskiy wrote on X.
Zelenskiy said his officials would hand over the revised draft version of the peace deal on Wednesday. Thursday’s call comes a day after British, French and German leaders spoke to US President Donald Trump and agreed it was a “critical moment” and “intensive work on the peace plan is continuing and will continue in the coming days,” according to a British report of the conversation.
EU leaders have been working to draft a security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of the end of hostilities, although it’s unclear which European nation will be willing to offer a substantial guarantee against further Russian aggression in the event of a peace deal.
Meanwhile, Trump administration has denied pressuring Ukraine into agreeing a swift peace deal with Russia despite Trump reportedly setting a Christmas deadline.
